New Orleans

We’ve visited New Orleans twice, both times in the late spring, and were lucky enough to have pleasant, mild weather both times. New Orleans is truly a charming, melting pot and feels like a little world of its own. The culture, architecture, food, music, and history all blend together in a way that makes the city feel unlike anywhere else.

It’s a fantastic place for anyone who loves live music, incredible food, and cities with a strong sense of identity, but you also have to be comfortable coming face-to-face with the painful realities of American history. New Orleans doesn’t shy away from its past, including the legacies of slavery, racism, colonialism, and inequality that helped shape the city. That history is uncomfortable at times, but confronting it is essential to understanding what makes New Orleans what it is today.

Whether you only have a few days or a week, you’ll be able to fill your time in NOLA. We chose to spend our time there eating mostly, wandering the parks and neighborhoods, admiring the gorgeous oak trees and old houses, checking out the local music scene, learning about the cities legends of Voodoo and Vampires, and taking day trips to the swamps and plantations just outside of town.
